Is it possible to make a good non toxic black paint at home for coating Utensils used for Solar Cooking ?

Since I am working on a DIY project to make solar cooker , I wanted to do most of it at home. Would love to make the black paint myself , if its possible - else there are spray paints available as a last option :) though then I have to research and see as to which ones are not toxic or emit toxic fumes on heating.Is it possible to make a good non toxic black paint at home for coating Utensils used for Solar Cooking ?
i would use engine paint good till 500 degrees ( automotive store) and then let it sit in the sun to cook off any remaining out gases ,,,once its cured it wont emit anything . but making paint ????????,you could try the old fashion '; milk paint ';

it wont last, in that super heated enviroment . goggle it and you will find an online source.

you will just have to recoat as you need too .

good luck ,,,,very cool way to cook ~!Is it possible to make a good non toxic black paint at home for coating Utensils used for Solar Cooking ?
Making paint yourself would be a very tough project. There is such chemistry in manufactured paints. We have come a long way from the day of mixing lye with water and whitewashing.

Spray paints are usually high VOC. Just about any paint store sells low VOC or no VOC paint. I would go to a paint store and talk to a real expert. Not the box store. The so called paint expert this week was the plumbing expert last week.

They can help you with the specific application you are looking for.
