Our house is a 2000, so it's not ancient, but it still needs the 10 year updates. So we were looking into have the light yellow painted a modern brown/beige, which would be about $4000. We also looked into all new stainless appliances, which would also be $4000. Which would we get the most for our money?
The house color makes the house, but the stainless gives a new look too! What is a better home investment? Stainless appliances or new outside paint color?
That depends on when you plan on selling! If you're going to sell your house in the next couple of years, I'd do the appliances because people like brand new (or close to) kitchen appliances.
If you're not going to sell for a while, I'd probably do the paint, make it a nice, classic color that (hopefully) won't need to be changed again any time soon.
But then again, if you're not selling any time soon, you should do whatever you want! Have fun! What is a better home investment? Stainless appliances or new outside paint color?
Are you selling the house? I think fresh paint would be the best ';investment';. If you're looking for your most enjoyment, you might like new stainless steel appliances. If you're looking to accumulate the most wealth, pay your mortgage down $4000 instead, and only replace appliances when they actually break, and only paint your house when the old paint is actually about to fail, not just when you decide you'd like them to be another color instead. :)
If this is an update, touch up the paint on the exterior for now. Your appliances are not that old and will give you good service for a while to come. Not to mention you won't be constantly wiping finger prints off the stainless steel.
If you plan to sell, touching up the exterior will add curb appeal, but walking in to a new set of appliances is a big selling card.
If the outside looks outdated or bad they won't even come in the door to see the stainless appliances!
