i thought maybe hanging various curtains with fringes and diff textures and colors to a central wall, like where my bed is but i don't want to just leave the other walls white. any other things you can do? iv'e just never had a colorful room and wanted to do it. Colorful beaded curtains or even just a few various size and shaped crystals hanging in front of the window will bring playful colorful light into the room during the day.

In the evenings you can focus different colored light bulbs to spot light or shade certain areas of the room or all the same color if you like a particular shade though mixing em to get different effects is fun to play with.

You can also hang inexpensive suspension or any kind of rod to hang colored sheers or nice fabric often found only dollar a yard either for the whole room to make it like an exotic tent or I just stapled it right onto the wall on the molding once which you can do either flat, tacking it at the bottom if it's a nice texture or shade or print you like, or even gather it for a richer look.

Just behind your bed is a nice place to hand the sheers too. First a flat layer that you can hang a favorite poster or painting or whatever and one of those half circle curtain rods atop of that with matching or contrasting drapery hanging and tied back on either side to make it look like a canopy bed wall which is less expensive than buying new furniture while bring color and a little excitement into the room. Often you can cover a whole room in fabric and still have some left over for less than the price of a can of expensive paint if you check out local fabric sales and no sewing involved.

Or put tons of christmas lights everywhere running across the ceiling and run a tight string from one end of the room to the other and hang long ribbons at various lengths, making your own fabric art. Tons of things you can do.

Or paint your own panels and design however you like and just hang them from little loop screws into the wall that doesn't have to be floor to ceiling but still kinda funky using some as bulletin boards or nice display background for certain treasures. Nice if each board is different colors too.

Well, if you can' t paint, you can't wallpaper. You are, however, as a renter, stuck with white walls unless you can strike a deal with the landlord.

You can hang drapes at the head of your bed with a long curtain rod to make it a real focal point. Then use colorful art on the other walls. You might need to get creative with what you consider art. Look at decorating websites and magazines like www.bhgh.com and http://www.christopherlowell.com/. Bring the color into the room with art and accessories like pillows.

tapestries are good to hang on walls and are usually very colorful. go to a thrift store and look for sheets/ curtains that you could dye to a color you like. you may also be able to work something out with the landlord. maybe the two of you could agree on a unoffensive color or pay an extra deposit that you would get back if you painted the walls back before you moved out. of course make sure to get it all in writing if he/she agrees. you may be able to put up some kind of wallpaper using double sided tape instead of gluing it.

good luck!
decorating is heaps fun! hanging curtains is the best way to colour your room, you can also put up picture frames, other interesting wall hangings... in my room as a wall hanging I have a sushi mat, and between the wooden sticks i poke through flowers from the garden, it adds a nice touch, I love it. Just be creative, you'll be really surprised with what you come up with.

In fact you could buy some pretty material and nail it to the wall or something.
You can use fabric by ';upholstering'; the walls - use lathing strips at the top and bottom of the wall with small finish nails and then attach the fabric to that. The nails will leave extremely small holes that are easy patched. OR you can hang curtains all along one wall or all of them. OR you can buy removable wallpaper - they actually make wallpaper now that can be peeled off and will leave no residue!

I've found these vinyl stickers on eBay, they stick to the wall, are pretty flat, and peel off when you need them to. A lot have inspirational sayings (such as the LIVE LAUGH LOVE) or you can get them customized to say what you want. If you like a modern look, these are great for walls!!
you can do drawings and colour them-i think the best way is this only,if you want to do something special, then show your creativity on your walls.Didn't you see Jaane Tu.......Ya Jaane Na-in that didn't you see Adity's brother's room-it was really amazing and cool.
Just paint them then paint them back after.
Very Simple, Use Wallpapers.
I've always loved how tapestries look, they come in so many designs.. and of course you can do pictures paintings...
Use decorative mirrors, fabric, and clocks. Huge items.
Wall stickers
wallpaper, duh.
all the things you said and hang up posters and stuff.
